Discover an easy way to enjoy fresh local food
ChaffeeProvides.org helps you buy locally and enjoy knowing who and where your food comes from. The website is an easy information access point for you to discover fresh, local food — through brick-and-mortar markets, farmer’s markets, CSAs and restaurants that offer local products on their menus. The Food Assets Map also connects you to a network of organizations and food banks that are helping to improve food security in Chaffee County.
ChaffeeProvides.org was conceived during the pandemic, when grocery store shelves laid bare last spring because of supply bottlenecks in labor, transportation and international imports. Local food security felt vulnerable back then, as growers were uncertain how they would bring hundreds of rows of fresh lettuce and other crisp, ripe vegetables to market.
Meanwhile, community members knew there were fresh eggs, cheese, milk and honey as well as lamb, poultry, pork and enough beef to feed a small country being grown and raised right here in our backyards. Yet many did not know how to find and buy it. This new site lets you know how to do just that!
Supporting agriculture, even with the smallest purchase, helps keep this beautiful place intact. Productive land provides our stunning views, water quality and wildlife habitat, and protects our valuable lands from over-development. The agricultural sector is the county’s fifth-largest economic driver. It exists and endures because of our neighbors who work these lands.
We hope you’ll enjoy exploring Chaffee County’s agricultural bounty and getting to know the ranchers and farmers that have stories to share and food to sell. Please leave your comments on the Spotlight pages, and don’t forget to sign up if you are a local food provider or organization interested in featuring your products and services here. It’s free!
